Something is about to change in children’s ministry.
Not overnight.
But in the next few years, we’re going to see a shift.
For a long time, churches have been trying to make their programs more polished. Better videos. Better graphics. Better production.
And there’s nothing wrong with that.
But here’s the thing…
The world is about to be flooded with polished content.
AI is already making it incredibly easy to create slick videos, stunning images, and professional-looking media. Before long, everyone will have access to content that looks amazing.
Which means polished programming won’t stand out the way it once did.
So what will?
Authenticity.
The future of children’s ministry isn’t going to be built on who has the best stage, the best videos, or the most impressive production.
It’s going to be built on relationships.
Kids are going to crave leaders who know them, care about them, and walk alongside them in their faith. They’re going to value ministries that feel real more than ministries that feel impressive.
And interestingly enough, you can already see this shift happening with young KidMin leaders.
High school and college volunteers (the future leaders of children’s ministry) aren’t impressed by slick programming. They’re drawn to ministries where relationships matter, where they’re trusted to lead, and where faith feels genuine.
In other words…
The future of children’s ministry is going to look a lot less like a production.
And a lot more like discipleship.
So how do we get ready?
Keep focusing on great teaching.
Keep creating engaging experiences.
But never forget the thing that will matter most:
Relationships.
Because long after the lights, videos, and graphics are forgotten…
Kids will still remember the leader who walked with them toward Jesus.
That’s actually one of the big ideas behind my book Feeding Faith. In it, I talk about how children’s ministry has to move beyond just delivering great lessons and toward helping kids experience real discipleship and a genuine relationship with God. If the future of KidMin is going to be built on authenticity and relationships, then we need strategies that help us intentionally build that kind of faith in kids.
That’s exactly what Feeding Faith is about.
